Is our apartment a bulk waste generator?
Under the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026, a site with 20,000 square metres or more of floor area, 40 KLD or more of water use, or 100 kg or more of waste a day is a bulk generator, and residents' associations and gated communities are expressly covered. Many Bengaluru apartment complexes meet at least one test. We check yours during the survey.
What does four-bin segregation mean in practice?
Wet waste (kitchen and garden), dry waste (paper, plastic, metal, glass), sanitary waste (diapers, pads) and special-care waste (items such as batteries, bulbs, medicines and paint) each go in a separate bin. Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Ltd directed four-bin segregation for households in April 2026. We set up the bins and train residents and staff.
Our composter keeps smelling. What is going wrong?
Usually the load is too high for the unit, the mix is too wet, or plastic and other dry waste is getting into the wet stream. We fix the segregation at source, balance the load and the dry material, maintain the unit and log input and output.
Does processing our own waste affect the garbage fee?
A garbage fee has been charged with property tax since April 2025, and self-managing bulk generators were reported to be exempt. Rules on this can change, so we keep clear records of what the community processes itself and confirm the current position with the corporation.
What happens to our e-waste?
Under the E-Waste (Management) Rules, 2022, bulk consumers must hand e-waste only to a registered producer, recycler or refurbisher. We set up a collection point and channel items accordingly.
