Frequently asked questions
Do DG sets in Bengaluru need KSPCB consent?
At most sites they form part of the premises' consent. The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board sets consent fees for DG sets by capacity and has asked for retrofit emission control devices on larger in-use sets. The exact conditions depend on the set and the site, so we check each one against the board's current requirements during the survey and keep the papers on file.
BESCOM has announced a shutdown in our area. What should we check?
BESCOM publishes planned outages by area in advance. Before the day, check the fuel level, do a test start, confirm the AMF panel is in auto, make sure UPS batteries are fully charged and that someone is on site to watch the changeover. Under our AMC we track the notices for your area and do these checks for you.
Our DG sometimes fails to start. What is usually wrong?
Most often the starting system rather than the engine: a weak cranking battery, a faulty charger, a sticking fuel solenoid, air in the fuel line or an AMF setting that gives up too early. Sets that start frequently wear these parts faster, which is why we test them on every visit and log every failed start.
Can you maintain the UPS in a tech park where the tenant owns the server room?
Yes. We agree in writing which UPS and DG assets belong to the landlord and which to the tenant, schedule bypass and maintenance work with the tenant's IT team out of hours, and share test results with both sides so a failure is never lost between two contracts.
VRLA or lithium-ion batteries for our UPS?
VRLA costs less upfront and is well understood; lithium-ion lasts longer, takes less space and copes better with heat, but costs more at the start. The right answer depends on autonomy, space and how often the batteries cycle, so we compare the total cost of ownership for your load before recommending either.
